My take on Covid-19, 3/19/2020

Time for my Covid-19 review for 3/19/2020, my main point is still to not panic…

As of today, The P&I Mortality rate for the 2019-2020 Flu season is 7.1%. This is from the CDC. They apparently only update this page once weekly, so this doesn’t change from my post earlier in the week, this number is for week ending 3/7/2020.

With 191,127 total cases and 7,807 total deaths, the Covid-19 Mortality rate Globally is 4.08%. This is from the WHO as of 3/18/2020.

Take precautions, wash your hands, sanitize stuff, avoid close contact and large groups of people, put away supplies to survive at least a month at home, but for Heaven’s sake, DON’T PANIC!!!

Odds of survival are pretty good if you just practice good hygiene and you don’t have pre-existing conditions that make your odds worse… so DON’T PANIC!!

I realize that bad shit is happening in Italy (and other places) because of this virus, so we also have to do our part to not overload the medical services available. If you think you may have the flu, or Covid-19, check the symptoms (https://www.cdc.gov/…/2019-n…/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html) and give your Dr. a call before you run to the ER and possibly infect others (or hell, you may not have been infected but you could get infected by running to the ER where the sick people are, use that mushy stuff in your head to make decisions).

Yes, the flu sucks, but as of right now your odds of making it through this virus are better than they are for the regular seasonal influenza.

I also heard something somewhere that has me thinking, even though I haven’t found it anywhere officially. I’d like to see this subject reviewed and confirmed/denied by the CDC and/or the WHO, but…
If you had a severe cough and/or mild fever back in late December, January, or February, there is a remote possibility that you actually had Covid-19. Just because it was first identified in China in mid December doesn’t mean it didn’t spread from there before it was identified. Remember, they’re saying the incubation period of this is 7-28 days at this point. If you traveled for the holidays, there’s a very real chance you were exposed before it was identified as a pandemic.

I personally know at least one person that had flu like symptoms for about 3 days and a severe cough for a few weeks in January/February. They went to the Dr and got tested and it wasn’t identified as any known flu or pneumonia so the Dr put them on prednisone for their cough and it cleared up. This person traveled to a large city for New Years and the illness showed the symptoms about the 3rd week of January. The person I’m thinking of is just fine now and everyone else in their household is fine and never developed any symptoms (that they noticed). Could this have been Covid-19?
